IDEA-NUMBERS

Pythagoras, who coined the term "cosmos", defined the Three Worlds as:
• World of Archetypes (which later became the Theory of Ideas with Plato);
• Microcosm, or small world, Man;

A Few Words on the Method

Systemic - Ternary - Analogical - Rational

Geonumerology, unlike numerology, adopts a systemic approach where the study of relationships between numbers is more important than the numbers themselves.

The interpretation of a number depends to a large extent on its position in relation to the others. A number taken in isolation is of little interest.

geometry of pythagoras

The analogy is largely based on ternary law, correspondence theory and the use of symbols.

The symbol can be a number, a geometric sign, a word, or a sentence. The use of words and the use of figurative symbols are complementary to each other. Language in itself is nothing other than symbolism, where words are used as expression to bring to mind something that is not there.

There is a principle that unites the parts, but whose universality has been forgotten by the parts, each taking on a different form. Among the Greeks, this relationship is called the Logos, or Logic, or Reason. It is also called the "Word" because it is thought, word and action at the same time.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. Everything that was done was done by Him.

Gospel of St. John

The theosophical reduction (from the Greek: theos, divine or Gods and sophia, wisdom) corresponds to the current 9-numbers of numerology. It consists in reducing all numbers to the first 9.

"The theosophical reduction was an operation familiar to Pythagoreans who neglected numbers greater than 10, so they reduced numbers greater than 10 to the first nine numbers, taking into account only their root or pythmen, i.e., substituting the remainder of their division by nine, or the number nine even when the number was a multiple of nine. »

Arthuro Reghini ~ Sacred Numbers in the Pythagorean Masonic Tradition

In the time of Pythagoras (6th century B.C.), the letters of the Greek alphabet were used to designate numbers: Alpha for One, Beta for Two, Gamma for Three, Delta for 4, and so on.

Numerology derives from this principle and applies a numerical value to each letter of your name which making it possible to calculate the number for any name or word by adding together the values of its letters.

The correspondence table below associates each letter of greek alphabet with a number.

Topology of numbers

The way in which the first 9 numbers are arranged the way in which they can be interpreted.

The first 9 numbers form a system in itself since all numbers are reduced to the first 9.

A systemic approach involves three things:
- a determined number of elements;
- a structure that serves as a receptacle for the elements;
- relationships between elements within the structure.

The Matrix Layout

This is the layout adopted in geonumerology and derived directly from the tables created by Pythagoras. The interest of such an arrangement is to allow a cartesian approach

(abscissa and ordinate) of the first 9 numbers, where each one has a place assigned to it in relation to the whole.

This arrangement corresponds to the Three Worlds:
- the World of Archetypes: 123
- the Microcosm: 456
- the Macrocosm: 789

Representative numbers

The numbers 1, 5 and 9 keep their place in the matrix whatever the arrangement, in rows or columns. They are representative numbers.

Law of the ternary

Just as the universe is divided into three worlds: the natural world, the human world and the divine world, man is composed of three distinct but interrelated elements: body, soul and spirit. The Triad or law of the ternary is therefore the constitutive law of things and the true key to life.

"Beyond the Trinity as law, nothing exists anymore. The Trinity is the synthetic and absolute formula to which all sciences lead and this formula, forgotten as to its scientific value, has been integrally transmitted to us by all religions, unconscious depositaries of the Wisdom Science of primitive civilisations. »

Figurate numbers

From number to shapes

Pythagorean geometry

Figurate numbers allow us to create a bridge between arithmetic and geometry. They derive from the use of small pebbles represent the units that make up numbers with symmetrical geometric shapes.

Pythagoras was the first to make the connection between numbers, geometric shapes and spatial dimensions. Below is a visualisation of the number 10, the fourth triangular number and central symbol of the Pythagorean school, named the Tetractys.

Tetrahedron, symbol of number 4

Given the total parallelism between arithmetic and geometry, it is thus possible to visualize the number in space using points, or pebbles (calculi in Latin), according to the number of units it contains:

  • 1 point for the number 1;
  • 2 points for the number 2, the line (1D);
  • 3 points for the number 3, the triangle (2D);
  • 4 points for the number 4, the tetrahedron (3D).

A figured number is an integer that is usually represented by points and which forms a regular geometric figure.

Theosophical addition & triangular numbers

To know the Theosophical addition of a number, it is enough to add up arithmetically all the numbers from the unit to it.
Thus the number 4 gives in theosophical addition: 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10.

This operation corresponds in all respects to the way Triangular numbers (1, 3, 6, 10, ...) are elaborated.

1 = 1
2 = 1 + 2 = 3
3 = 1 + 2 + 3 = 6
4 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10
5 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15
6 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 = 21
7 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 28
8 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 = 36
9 = 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 9 = 45

"They saw numbers as a stream, a flow of units or monads, reflecting the infinite multiplication of one and the same divine Unit. These units, represented by points or groups of points, were translated in the forms of the sensible world by geometrical figures, in two or three dimensions. »

The art and manner

Morphology of numbers

Theory of Ideas and Theory of Forms

Unlike other symbols such as chemical symbols or musical notes, geometric symbolism is the only one that corresponds to nature itself, to the very structure of the universe. A true universal language, esoteric symbolism is like an absolute reflection of nature and its laws, not an invention.

This "language of the image", which the Ancients conceived as a language in its own right, has its own alphabet and grammar.

Law of symmetry & proportion

The Number represents the Idea. He is the Father. Geometry is the Mother of Creation, generating the forms. Each Number inhabits the form that is "destined" for it. Thus the metaphysical abstraction of the Number materializes in geometry, takes shape. The creation of the forms, following the laws of proportion and symmetry, always takes place starting from the same standard meter: the radius of the circle.

"Now, as it was said in the beginning, all things were in disorder, when God introduced proportions into all things, both in relation to themselves and to one another, in all measure and in every way that they admitted proportion and symmetry. »

Matyla C. Ghyka, in the foreword to her work on The Golden Number, speaks of the symmetry and proportion of Mediterranean art:

The "graphic processes which (...) result in reproducing lines in which the theme of the whole is reflected, reproduced, according to a certain more or less veiled rhythm, in each of the parts. Law of analogy, of repetition of the fundamental form, of identity in variety, of the Same and the Similar. »

The graphic alphabet

The Idea from Latin idea, "type of things"; borrowed from the Greek ι ̓ δ ε ́α properly "visible form, aspect" hence "distinctive form", "species"; derived from the Greek ε ι ̃ δ ο ν "to See".

Each number has a meaning, and the language of numbers only becomes clear and readable in the light of shapes. But just as we had to learn the letters of the alphabet to be able to read these lines, so we need to have the alphabet of archetypes shapes to be able to interpret the symbol properly.

From geometry to geonumerology

Geonumerology is a discipline that attempts to uncover the deep psychology of an individual through the study of the lines of force present in the symbols of his name and date of birth.

art of geometry

Geonumerology is therefore a mixture of numerology and geometry. Geometry will allow us to visualize the number, to give it a body in space, to grasp its lines of force and finally to discover the idea hidden behind the symbol.

"Each number responds to a characteristic idea and hieroglyph, so that the laws of number combinations verify the combination of symbols and ideas. (...) This law is one of the best keys to open the ancient mysteries. »

Secret value of numbers

All integers are associated with one of the following 4 secret values: 1, 3, 6 or 9.

The secret value of a number is obtained by applying the process of theosophical addition to it followed by reduction.

Let's take an example: the number 7

  • The theosophical addition of the number 7 gives: 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 28
  • The theosophical reduction of the number 28 is : 2 + 8 = 10 = 1 + 0 = 1
  • The secret value of 7 is therefore at 1

secret values of three worlds

The law of one

By applying the secret value to the first nine numbers, we see that the total of each line (see on the right), or World, gives the Unit.

The unit reappears every three numbers in the Three Worlds.

The unit and its reflexions in the two other Worlds constitute the Divine Axis or Divine Attributes (first column of the secret matrix composed only of 1) and correspond in the archetypal matrix to the numbers 1, 4 and 7.

The law of analogy

Reasoning by Analogy is reasoning by association of ideas, combinations and synthesis. Its tools are the symbols between which correspondences are established.

The keystone of the esoteric teaching of Pythagoras rests on the idea of the interdependence of all the elements of the cosmos by a link, a primordial energy, associated by some with divine love, by others with the law of attraction, in a word with the force that unites, or better, keeps together all parts of the universe.

Worlds and reflections

If the numbers 4 and 7 are the reflections of the Divine World in the Human World and in the Natural World, then there must be a human reflection in the Divine and Natural Worlds as well as a natural reflection in God and Man .

"There is a division of the universal picture recognized by all observers in the order of true philosophy, that by which one distinguishes the divine region, the spiritual region and the natural region. It is also recognized that there is a correspondence of the divine region to the two spiritual and natural regions, and that therefore the numbers of the divine order must have their representatives and images in these two regions. But those who do not have the key to the numbers are exposed to great misunderstanding when they want to fix or contemplate these correspondences. "
